Dublin Region Non-Domestic (Commercial) Water Metering

Fingal County Council on behalf of the four Dublin Region local authorities (Dublin City Council, Fingal County Council, South Dublin County Council and Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council) entered into a contract with Gerry McCloskey Engineering Ltd (GMC), to supply and install an estimated 42,000 automatic reading water meters on non-domestic (commercial) connections across the region.

The Government's National Water Pricing Policy Framework requires the charging of non-domestic customers of water services to recover the costs of providing these services to customers. Local authorities have been required to achieve universal metering of the water supplied to the non-domestic sector. Atkins Consulting Engineers are the Employer's representatives for the implementation of this project. Only non-domestic customers will be metered under this project.

The universal implementation of metering on the non-domestic water connections will represent a fairer way for non-domestic customers to pay for water services provided by their local authority. Read more about the Dublin Region Non-Domestic Water Metering Project.

Scope of Project

The GMC Group carry out the following activities on behalf of and with the authority of Dublin City Council:

  • Customer Database Validation
  • Pre-Installation Surveys and design of meter and meter reading equipment installations
  • Installation of Meters and Meter Reading Technology
  • Testing and commissioning including reading of meters for a period of two years after installation

What happens now?

GMC Group will arrange an appointment to survey the property, at which time you will have an opportunity to advise of any special requirements such as opening times, process requirements, etc. Following the successful completion of the survey GMC Group will again contact you to arrange an appointment for the installation of the meter. Dublin City Council will operate and maintain the metering system once it has been installed, tested and commissioned by GMC Group.
