For those who live, study and work in Dublin City, everything that Dublin City Council does affects our lives in terms of quality of life, access to facilities and ease of movement. Equally important is individual engagement with, and participation in, the local community, as a way of strengthening community spirit.
Dublin City Public Libraries has developed “Knowing Dublin” - a multi-dimensional resource offering a variety of opportunities for citizens to engage with their local council. It includes:
- A user-friendly approach to finding out about local democracy in the form of a guide - Knowing Dublin Know Your City Council.
This is also available in printed form throughout the network of Dublin City Public Libraries.
- Interactive workshops between secondary school students and civic leaders and public service managers. Located in City Hall they are designed to engender interest and participation in local democracy. More information for Teachers.
- Recommended reading to inform and deepen our understanding of active citizenship.
A Film and Citizenship resource list of interest to CSPE students and teachers is currently being selected and will be made available on the catalogue shortly.
