Public Open Days for the Final Phase of the Dublin Bay Project |
Family fun day
On Sunday 8th May, there were many activities managed by the Area Office at the Family Fun Day in Fr Collins Park which were appreciated by the local community. The Community Section facilitated the event with the provision of activities for children with bouncy castles, games, stalls, and spot versus stripes.
There was a good crowd at the Donaghmede Dash 5K organised in partnership with Raheny Shamrock AC for local Donaghmede based charity AZ Kids. Boot Camp Ireland and a boxing display added to the sporting occasion. There was a family fun walk for those who preferred a slower pace. Deputy Lord Mayor Pat Crimmins presented the prizes to the top three finishers for men and women in the race Also a band the Brazen Lung played on the stage at the water feature. It was the first time for an event of this scale in the magnificent Fr Collins Park. The band was sourced with the assistance of NEARfm – the local community radio station.
There was a very encouraging and good attendance and amid the sunny albeit windy afternoon, a good time was had by all.
The Garda and Civil Defence presence was appreciated and the developer Gannon provided accommodation for the race registration and refreshments. The co-operation of the Parks and Landscaping Division is acknowledged. |

DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL TO FOREFRONT IN HOSTING ST.PATRICK’S 5K FESTIVAL ROAD RACE
Dublin City Council will once again play a key role in hosting the 2011 Kleinwort Benson Investors St. Patrick’s 5k Festival Road Race, along with support from Metropolitan Harriers & St. Brigid’s Athletic Club and An Garda Síochána.
The race, from which part of the proceeds will go to the Marie Keating Foundation, will take place in Dublin on Sunday, 20th March, starting at 12.00 noon from the Mansion House on Dawson Street. From there, runners will follow a route through Georgian Dublin before returning again to the finish line at the Mansion House. Present to officially start the race will be the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr. Gerry Breen.
In its sixth year, the race is a highlight of the annual St. Patrick’s Festival programme and a major element in attracting tourists and visitors to Dublin City. The first of only three city street races being held in Dublin this year, it is open to dedicated athletes, families and fun runners alike. |
There is just no stopping Woodlawn Residents’ Association from the North Central Area in Dublin!
Following on from their success in winning the City Neighbourhoods Competition 2010 outright, they have also won the “Best Housing Estate in Ireland” category in the Pride of Place competition (http://prideofplace.cooperationireland.org/). Local area staff assisted Woodlawn with their entry by producing a book and DVD to complement their application. This can be viewed on http://vimeo.com/channels/88236 and is also on the near home page: www.near.ie
Local TD and Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey, announced the winners at the gala ceremony, which was hosted by Meath County Council in the Knightsbrook Hotel and part sponsored by Indaver and IPB on Saturday last, 13th November, 2010.
The Pride of Place Competition recognises and celebrates the vital contributions that community partnerships make to society. The focus is on people coming together to shape, change and enjoy all that is good about their local area. It differs from other similar projects in that they specifically recognise the involvement of the local community in all aspects of rural and urban regeneration including, promoting social cohesion, involvement in planning, the promotion of heritage and environmental awareness.
Many congratulations to Woodlawn and the North Central Area! |
