Council wins Excellence Award

Dublin City Council was joint winner of the Sustainable Environment Award at this year’s Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards. It received the award for the Green Plan for the Kilbarrack Fire Station.

The awards are organised by Chambers Ireland in association with the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government. Dublin Fire Brigade launched the Green Plan for Kilbarrack Fire Station in September 2010.

It is a comprehensive fire station plan outlining problems identified, actions taken and the achievements attained to date under the following themes: Energy, Water, Waste, Biodiversity, Transport, Society and Procurement. Some of the more notable achievements to date include electricity consumption in the station being reduced by 80% and the carbon emissions from the building being cut by 10 tonne per annum.
