Ballymun Community Law Centre presents Mental Health Law, an 8 week course on all aspects of mental health in Ireland.

The course commences on Thursday 23rd February and ends on 12th April 2012. It takes place in the Ballymun Community Law Centre from 12.30pm - 1.30pm. The course fee is €50.

Advanced Introduction to Addiction Studies

This one-day workshop to increase your learning about addiction, and is a follow-on to the Introduction to Addiction Studies.

Date/Time: Tuesday 6th March (10:00am-4:30pm)

Series of lunchtime lectures to promote mental wellness for young people in Finglas. 

  • The lectures will be held in the Finglas Civic Centre from 12.30-1.15 on the following dates:
  • Wednesday 7th March with Dr. Hugh Gallagher on "The role of the GP in youth mental health."
  • Wednesday 23rd May with Susana Nunez, Barnardos on "The roots of Empathy Programme."
  • September "Young People's seminar" - date to be agreed.
  • Wednesday 21st November with Dr. Gerry McCarney of Adolescent Addiction Service on "Mental Health, young people and suicide."

 

This series of lectures has been organised by the extended working group which emerged at the October 11th seminar "Promoting mental wellness for young people in Finglas".

Wild & Wonderful Dance Classes

Open to men and women aged 50+, Coisceim Broadreach in association with Dublin City Council are hosting weekly drop-in dance classes at 7 centres across Dublin between March & April.

Injecting Drug Use Harm Reduction Strategies

This half-day workshop is for project workers and volunteers who are working the drugs field who want to learn about injecting drug use.  To participate fully in this workshop you need to have a good knowledge of drugs (types and effects) and also an understanding of the impact of addiction on the individual.

Failte Isteach Volunteers required

Volunteer English language tutors are required for the new Failte Isteach Conversational English Classes starting soon in the Balseskin Reception Centre for Asylum Seekers at St Margaret’s Road, Finglas, Dublin 11

Volunteers will be provided with training and lesson plans from which they can work.

Shuffleboard is a game played on a long mat whereby participants must push a disc with a broom-shaped paddle in an attempt to land the disc in a marked scoring area.

Over 50’s - Get more physically active with FitLine

FitLine is like a smokers quit line, except it gives you the information and encouragement you need to get more physically active. 
You can find out about clubs, groups and facilities in your area.  You can get help to work out an activity routine that suits your lifestyle.  Or if you just want to chat, we have lots of ideas about how you could do simple things to get some healthy activity into your routine.  After you’ve made the first call, a mentor will arrange a time to ring you every week until you’re happy with your progress.  Mentors are volunteer older adults who’ve been trained to motivate and encourage you to be active. Find out more by contacting Go for Life on 01-8057733

 Jigsaw youngballymun is delighted to welcome SASSY: Substance Abuse Service Specific to Youth in the RECO.

SASSY provides support to young people under 18 for whom regular drug and/or alcohol use is having a significant negative impact on their day-to-day life. Young people can be self-referred or their parents can make an appointment. For more information, please click here

 

Volunteer Outreach Service in Ballymun

 A drop-in service supported by Ballymun Whitehall Area Partnership and delivered by the Dublin City North Volunteer Centre is now based in the Partnership offices in the Ballymun Shopping Centre. This service aims to promote and support volunteering in Ballymun, Whitehall and Santry.

Dublin City Council are pleased to announce that bagged household domestic waste is now accepted at Ringsend Recycling Centre and Northstrand Recycling Centre. There will be a €4 charge for each 80 litre bag of domestic waste disposed. For more details about both recycling centres, click here.
