What are Strategic Policy Committees?

The Strategic Policy Committees (SPCs) were set up under Section 48 of the Local Government Act 2001. Their focus is to develop Policy issues relating to Council services and to liaise with Agencies, Community & Voluntary sectors operating in the City.

They meet at least twice a year. Dublin City Council currently has six SPCs, which between them cover the full range of policy issues of relevance to the City Council.

Each SPC,  consists of  two city councillors for every one representative from a different sector. Policy recommendations from the SPCs are referred to the Full Council, which has the final decision in the exercise of its reserved functions
