Community Development

The life of the city is in its people and the communities they create. The Community Department section of Dublin City Council was established in 1973 to work with communities towards improving the quality of life in their areas. The Ballymun Community Development team are committed to building relations with residents and working with them to develop community spirit. We believe that residents participation is valuable and has an impact on the quality of everyone’s life in Ballymun

We want to serve the people of Ballymun better and to engage more effectively with local residents for the benefit of the community both now and into the future.

There are a number of steps and measures currently being implemented to support the growth of meaningful resident participation in Ballymun:

  • We establish, fund and offer ongoing support to a wide range of local community groups and organisations
  • We facilitate community training and capacity building
  • We organise and fund numerous community activities and events
  • We support many local groups through the small grants scheme
  • We develop and provide back-up to Resident Groups and Associations
  • We offer service development advice to local community and voluntary groups

Our staff will work with any community or residents’ group that wants help to enable them to participate fully in their community. We work hard at building links with residents and organisations from the local community and voluntary sector.

What types of groups do we support?

  • Resident Associations
  • Environmental Groups
  • Youth Groups
  • Intercultural Groups
  • Summer Projects
  • Arts / Festival / Fun-day Groups

Community Growers Fund: A fund established by the Mount Street Club Trust at The Community Foundation for Ireland

Do you have a green space in Dublin lying idle? No money to do anything with it? Why not turn it into a community garden?

A new fund entitled ‘The Community Growers Fund’ established at The Community Foundation for Ireland is set to assist unemployed people by getting them involved in the development of community allotments or gardens in County Dublin.
The fund which is being created by The Mount Street Club Trust (MSCT) will provide grants to groups who have the capacity to work with the unemployed and can provide space for the development of a garden. The Community Foundation which is an experienced philanthropic and grant making organisation is assisting in this part of the fund.
