Dublin City Council, in conjunction with the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and the FAI has appointed nine Football in the Community Development Officers to encourage greater participation in football activities across the City.
The Football in the Community Development Officers will work closely with the current Sports Development Officers funded through the YPFSF in Dublin and will develop and co-ordinate the implementation of various football programmes in specific areas of the city where soccer is the sport of preference for the 10 – 21 year olds.
The development officers will be charged with providing football opportunities for young people, many of whom would be considered to be at risk of getting involved in drugs and alcohol, through the delivery of programmes such as the Futsal Programme, Coach Education, the Buntus Programme and other grassroots programmes in partnership with other agencies working with this particular target group.
