The following improvement works have already been carried out in Chapelizod:
1. Drainage Works
Flooding and drainage issues on Martins Row have been a cause of major concern to residents living on Martins Row. Localised flooding occurs on a regular basis after heavy rainfall with water being washed up onto footpaths and onto the front of houses and of most concern causing flooding to houses. The Drainage Department are to commence work on laying new mains where none exist at present and to repair existing blocked or collapsed sewers.
Work will commence this month in Maiden Row and in the Square and take 8 weeks to complete. Work will resume mid June to mid August on providing new drainage pipes and gullies along Martins Row. This however will require a Full Road Closure during this period to enable the works to be carried out in safety.
2. Environmental Works in the Square
This proposal consists of the upgrading of the footpaths and road carriageway with high quality granite paving and the creation of a raised pedestrian space for use as a meeting place. This work is planned to start in April (after the completion of Phase 1 of the drainage works) and take 9 months to complete.
During the period April – December a One-Way System for Traffic City Bound will be in operation on Martins Row to enable the works to be carried out.
Other works currently on our agenda:
1. Footpaths to the Anna Livia Bridge
This proposal consists of the construction of pedestrian footbridges to both the north and south faces of the bridge together with the separation of pedestrian, cyclist and vehicular traffic crossing the bridge. The works include:
- Construction of masonry cutwaters on the existing bridge foundations on the southern side of the bridge;
- The diversion of existing services;
- Construction of four number reinforced concrete foundation situated at the ends of the proposed footbridges and the removal of the existing bridge parapets where required to provide access to the footbridges;
- The removal of the existing footpaths across the bridge and the resurfacing of the carriageway and the provision of new road markings;
