Former Lord Mayor Gerry Breen
Lord Mayor Gerry Breen was elected as Lord Mayor of Dublin on 28th June 2010 until 27th June 2011.
He was first elected to Dublin City Council in 1999 and represents the Clontarf Area.
He was born and raised in Clontarf and is married to Maeve, with three daughters.
He was educated at Belgrove National School, Coláiste Mhuire and UCD where he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce Degree.
He has his own business First Aid Supplies, based in Balbriggan since 2002 and previously worked in marketing and sales.
He is a member of Fine Gael since 1981 and was Fine Gael Group leader on Dublin City Council from 2004 to 2010. He is currently a member of the City Council’s Arts, Culture, Leisure and Youth Affairs Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) and has previously served on
the Traffic and Transport SPC and the Planning, Development and European Affairs SPC.
He served as a director of the Dublin City Enterprise Board for 9 years.
He is a founder of Dublin Bay Watch in 1999 and currently is chair of the group. Dublin Bay Watch successfully took cases to both the Ombudsman and the European Court of Justice concerning the designation of the Special Protection Area (SPA) in Dublin Bay. In June 2010, An Bord Pleanála refused the Dublin Port Company’s application to infill part of the north inner bay of Dublin.
In 2010, he was appointed to the European Union Committee of the Regions by the Minister for the Environment and also is a member of the Dublin Regional Authority.
His major priorities were:
