Canal Bank Market returns to Portobello Harbour

Dublin City Council’s South East Area Office in association with Market Hub Dublin are delighted to announce the return of Canal Bank Market to Portobello Harbour this Saturday, August 15th from 11am to 5pm. This follows the hugely successful Canal Bank Market at the inaugural Rathmines/Portobello CANALAPHONIC Festival last May.

This boutique market will feature an eclectic mix of stalls including ethically sourced, vintage, designer and thrift store clothing, art, vinyl, comics, books, jewellery, porcelain and textile goods, snacks, refreshments and face painting.  In-keeping with the spirit of CANALAPHONIC, Abner Brown’s Barbershop will present a number of live acoustic performances throughout the afternoon at Busker’s Corner, and will also host live music in Roddy Boland’s from 9pm on Saturday night.

Speaking about the market, Dublin City Council South East Area Manager, Rose Kenny said “CANALAPHONIC Festival was an overwhelming success and provided a great boost to the local economy in Rathmines and Portobello. It is now our aim to work in partnership with the local community to develop the CANALAPHONIC brand with a number of smaller scale initiatives throughout the year, beginning with the return of Canal Bank Market on a pilot basis this August.”

According to Dave Judge of Abner Brown’s Barbershop, “When Dublin City Council first contacted me about sourcing acts for an upcoming community festival, I realised that our “Little Camden” desperately needed a boost and if done right this could be it. CANALAPHONIC was such an amazing success, and from talking with locals and local business owners everyone loved it and would love to see more activities throughout the year.”

CANALAPHONIC is supported by Dublin City Council, Dublin City Canals and Fáilte Ireland. #LoveDublin

Notes to the Editor:

Portobello Harbour is a unique and picturesque location. The market will act as a gateway to explore the wide and varied selection of cáfes, coffee shops, restaurants, bars and shops in the area, many of which will have special offers available throughout the day. The market will be a great asset to the local community and economy.
