Dráma nua i mBéarla agus Gaeilge le hAghaidh 2016

In 2016, beidh Clár na hEalaíne do Leanaí i Leabharlanna de chuid Chomhairle Cathrach Bhaile Átha Cliath ag coimisiúnú saothar nua amharclannaíochta dátheangaí (Gaeilge agus Béarla) do leanaí chun comóradh a dhéanamh ar chothrom céad bliain Éirí Amach na Cásca 1916, agus é d’aidhm aige an saothar nua seo a chur i láthair scoileanna agus leabharlann ar fud Chathair Bhaile Átha Cliath – ag brath ar mhaoiniú a bheith ar fáil lena aghaidh – i bhfómhar na bliana 2016.

In 2016 Dublin City Council’s Children’s Art in Libraries (CAL) Programme is commissioning a new bi-lingual (Irish and English) theatrical work for children to mark the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising,  with a view to delivering this new work -subject to funding - across Dublin City’s schools and libraries during the Autumn of 2016.

Chruthaigh an Clár an coimisiún dátheangach seo mar chomhartha aitheantais do na castachtaí sóisialta, polaitiúla agus cultúrtha as ar eascair Éirí Amach 1916 agus do na himeachtaí agus do na daoine a chruthaigh a oidhreacht agus a d’imir tionchar uirthi. Snáithe straitéiseach anois de leathnú an Chláir sa todhchaí is ea tacú le healaíontóirí chun saothar ag a bhfuil fócas dátheangach a chruthú do leanaí agus gníomh forbartha is ea an saothar seo dar linn.

The CAL programme has created this bi-lingual commission in acknowledgement of the social, political and cultural complexities leading to the Rising of 1916 and the events and people that created and influenced its legacy. Supporting artists to create work for children with a bi-lingual focus is now a strategic strand of the programme’s future expansion and we consider this work a developmental action.

Tá Éirí Amach na Cásca 1916, mar imeacht ríthábhachtach stairiúil, á mheabhrú, á chomóradh agus á cheiliúradh go náisiúnta agus go háitiúil in Éirinn agus ar fud na cruinne le linn 2016 agus táthar ag súil go dtabharfaidh an coimisiún scríofa dráma dhátheangaigh seo deis do leanaí taithí a fháil ar fhreagairt ealaíon comhaimseartha ar an imeacht tábhachta stairiúil seo trí mheán na hamharclannaíochta dátheangaí.  Meastar freisin gur ócáid atá ann chun deis a thabhairt do dhrámadóir saothar nua a chumadh do leanaí ag a bhfuil líofacht éagsúil sa Ghaeilge.

The 1916 Easter Rising, as a seminal historic event, is being remembered, commemorated and celebrated nationally and locally in Ireland and also internationally during 2016 and this bi-lingual playwriting commission is intended to offer an opportunity for children to experience a contemporary arts response through the medium of bi-lingual theatre to this important historical event.  It is also viewed as an occasion to offer a playwright an opportunity to make a new work for children with varying levels of comprehension of the  Irish Language.

The deadline for the submission of proposals to the open submission process is Wednesday December 16th 2015
