Come along and join in National Playday’s 10 Year Celebration Event

On Sunday 5th July, Dublin City Council will celebrate the annual National Playday  in Merrion Square Park between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Families can join in this free afternoon of fun and games in one of the city’s favourite parks.

The theme for this year’s event is ‘Play Naturally’ which is aimed at encouraging families and communities to support children and young people to play outdoors in natural environments.

“While playing, children experience a wide range of emotions which helps in the development of their physical, psychological and social well-being.  Play also enables children to form friendships as well as providing opportunities for learning, build confidence and self esteem” said An tArdmhéara, Críona Ní Dhálaigh, “Tar amach and bí ag súgradh linn”.

This year National Playday celebrates its 10th anniversary and there will be special activities including; ‘Creativity Corner’ using recycled materials hosted by artists from the ‘Recreate’ resource centre, ‘Smallest Kite in the World’ and ‘Danger’ workshops or children can explore the challenges the park has to offer with ‘Parkour’.

So come along and join in an exciting day of outdoor play. If you arrive early you can help blow out the candles and even have some cake.
