Ireland’s first Winter Food, Drink, Craft and Horticulture Festival to create 230 seasonal jobs and inject €8.4 million to the economy

The launch of I BELIEVE™, Dublin’s Christmas Tree and Village, took place on Monday, 21st September 2015 at Custom House Quarter. With over 10,000 visitors expected per day, I BELIEVE™ will add an estimated €8.4 million to the economy, in addition to creating over 230 seasonal jobs.

With a focus on supporting Irish businesses, traders, craftspeople, producers and charities, I BELIEVE™ will run for 28 days in the lead-up to Christmas from Thursday, 26th November until Wednesday, 23rd December at the exceptional setting of Custom House Quarter in Dublin, which includes George’s Dock, The chq Building and its surrounding area.

I BELIEVE™ will be Ireland’s first winter food, drink, craft and horticulture festival centred on what will be the country’s most iconic Christmas tree, donated by Coillte to the people of Ireland. Standing at 50 foot tall, it will be inspired by the 82 year tradition behind the world-famous Rockefeller Tree in New York, where charity plays a focal part. I BELIEVE™ are now calling on businesses across the country with a focus on Christmas foods, crafts, gifting, toys and horticulture to come onboard and join Ireland’s newest Christmas Tree and Village.

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Críona Ní Dhálaigh, Senator Feargal Quinn, CEO of Corporate.ie, Padraic O’Kane and Event and Marketing Manager at The chq Building, Mette Boye Hansen were on hand with elves Kyle Doyle, aged six from Killester and Eabha Scully, aged six from Clontarf, to unveil this exciting new Christmas concept.

Speaking from the launch, Mr. O’Kane said: “We, the stakeholders, are delighted to be part of this new festive initiative today. The future vision for I BELIEVE™ goes well beyond Christmas 2015, with the objective being to develop and grow the initiative into one of the most iconic and successful Christmas Markets in Europe within a three to five year period, while placing social sustainability firmly on-top of the Tree.”

With charity at its roots, I BELIEVE™ will become an area for Irish Charities including Temple Street Foundation, Simon Communities Ireland, ISPCC Childline, Barretstown, Inner City Helping Homeless, Society of St. Vincent de Paul and Christina Noble Children’s Foundation to build awareness and fundraise. The I BELIEVE™ Charitable Fund, chaired by Senator Feargal Quinn, will financially support seven different charities each year.

Speaking about the significance of the Fund for Irish charities, Senator Quinn said: “Giving is such a big part of the spirit of Christmas, so when the concept for I BELIEVE™ was being developed, it was vital that we kept charity at its roots. Each of the associate sponsors have selected a charity of their choice who will each have a presence next to Dublin’s most iconic tree, which they can use as a platform to fundraise and raise awareness for their organisation’s cause. The Irish people are very generous, so we hope that people will dig deep for these worthy causes.”

While, Lord Mayor of Dublin, Críona Ní Dhálaigh, took the opportunity to highlight what I BELIEVE™ will mean for Dublin, saying: “I BELIEVE™ will be a huge addition to the city this Christmas, and will prove a huge draw for Dubliners and tourists alike. It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to put Dublin on the European ‘Christmas market map’ and to showcase some of the country’s leading food, drink, craft and horticulture producers. Custom House Quarter is a unique venue, which is close to the city centre and extremely well-served by public transport, with numerous buses, LUAS and Dart right on their doorstep, so I have no doubt that it will do fantastically.”

Set amongst an authentic Irish Christmas market full of charm, visitors to I BELIEVE™ will find high quality, one-off gifts from individual traders and seasonal pop-up shops, including Bord Bia and Kilkenny Shop, who will showcase pieces from Irish designer Chupi; Bean & Goose chocolatiers; and Raman Patel of Patel Foods, all of whom took part in today’s launch photocall with a selection of the goods that will make up their market stalls.

Commenting on the event, Mette Boye Hansen said: “We are excited to be bringing the traditional Christmas market to the Docklands, to create an event where you can soak up the warmth of the season and experience a bit of magic and true Christmas spirit in a unique setting, both inside The chq Building and outside on Georges dock platform and its surroundings.”

In addition to the Christmas tree and market, I BELIEVE™ will have a dedicated Scandinavian lodge-themed lounge, which will provide the ideal location for an office Christmas party with a difference. At €45 per head + VAT, the package will include two drinks per person ranging from craft beers, local distilleries and soft drinks, along with a host of food options from the various delicious market stalls, entertainment from some of Ireland’s top jazz musicians, and a festive panoramic view you won’t see anywhere else.

For those with young families, I BELIEVE™ in Santa will offer a unique experience which will refresh their belief in our guest from The North Pole and build memories that will last a lifetime. The experience will include traditional Christmas storytelling and singing; a subtle lesson about caring for those less fortunate; a family photograph with Santa; and much more.

I BELIEVE™ is proudly supported by Dublin City Council, The chq Building, Corporate.ie, Custom House Dock Management, Dublin Docklands Development Authority, Dublin Port and associate sponsors.
