The Dublin City Comhairle na nÓg AGM will take place on Thursday 13th October  2011 in Croke Park from 9.30am – 3pm.

Comhairle na nÓg comes from Goal 1 of the National Children’s Strategy (2000) which identified that children & young people should have a voice in matters that affect them, they should be consulted where appropriate and have a right to have their say.

Each Local Authority area has a Comhairle na nÓg , which are ‘youth councils’ intended to give children and young people (aged between 12 and 18) the right to have their voices heard  by being involved in the development of local services and policies. Comhairle na nÓg is a consultative forum. Comhairle na nÓg is a vehicle through which members can select topic/issues of interest, work on them and bring to decision makers for change.

The 2011 Dublin City Comhairle Annual General Meeting (AGM) will:

  • Discuss and explore issues of importance to young people and identify one or two actions that will provide the focus of the work for Comhairle na nÓg in the year ahead.
  • Provide feedback to the broader group of young people on the progress made over the course of the past year.
  • Elect/select young people to fill vacancies on Comhairle.

Notes to the Editor:

Comhairle na nÓg is the National response to the commitment in the National Children’s Strategy to giving the Nation’s children and young people a voice in matters that effect them. There are 52 members, who are elected  via the Annual General Meeting.
