Dublin City Council delivers 22 High Quality Rapid Build Homes under budget
Dublin City Council can confirm that it has agreed the final account with Western Building System’s Ltd for the construction of 22 high quality three bed Rapid Build homes at Baile na Laochra, Poppintree, Ballymun. The City Council is happy to report that the agreed sum is significantly under budget at €180,000 per house. The entire site is now fully serviced with infrastructure, utilities and ESB sub section, which will allow for a significant benefit to the future provision of 50 affordable homes on the remainder of the site, by Ó Cualann Co-housing Alliance GLC.
The City Council’s Homeless Central Placement Service (CPS) began placing families in the new units in April 2016. The 22 rapid build homes are two-storey units, providing temporary accommodation for families who were experiencing homelessness, and who were placed in unsustainable accommodation in commercial hotels by the City Council, on an emergency basis. The CPS strove to ensure suitability of placement, considering key social infrastructure elements such as vicinity to local schools and existing family supports.
