Dublin City set to shine with Summer fun

Dublin shone last week for some special visitors who enjoyed all the city has to offer. This summer things are set to continue to shine in Dublin city with a hot line up of exciting events for summer 2011.

People of all ages will be kept well entertained with a whole host of special events that will take place around Dublin city from June to September.  Across the city, public spaces, parks, squares and city streets will come alive with a variety of special summer events being held at locations around the city - most of which are free of charge.

Embark on the well-loved Joycean Bloomsday trail through the city or wow yourself and your children with incredible street performers at the World Championships.  Enjoy dance, theatre and circus workshops at the Urban Living on Wolfe Tone Square or samba around Grafton Street in tribute to Dublin rocker Phil Lynott.  July is “Culture Month” at Clerys department store where you can immerse yourself in a showcase of international wonders; the “Made in Temple Bar” cultural celebration also takes place in July and of course you can simply choose visit one of the many music events and exhibitions taking place in venues across town.  There is something for everyone this summer.

Lord Mayor Gerry Breen said “I invite all Dubliners and visitors to come into Dublin to see what is on offer in Dublin City Summer Events Programme 2011.  There is something for everyone over the summer months throughout the city from the return of the Street World Performance Championships in Merrion Square Park in June to the Brazilian sounds of MaSamBa who will celebrate the life and career of Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy.  I would like to congratulate all involved in organising the many different events and encourage everyone to come along and enjoy the performances’

Richard Guiney, CEO Dublin City BID said “Dublin city is an especially vibrant place during the summer.  We have a great line up for families who are looking forward to the summer holidays and I hope they enjoy the wonderful programme of events.  As the weather heats up, so too does the atmosphere - our fantastic range of bars and restaurants come alive with people taking to the streets to dine and socialise.  There will be something happening in the city for everyone no matter when they visit, no matter their age or interests making Dublin city the place to be this summer."
