Dublin Region Homeless Executive activates Extreme Weather Protocol in response to Status Yellow Weather Warning

The Dublin Region Homeless Executive (DRHE) leads the response to ensure homeless persons at risk are sheltered for the duration of any extreme weather event.    In conjunction with our partners in homeless services and the other Dublin Local Authorities, we have developed contingency plans that can be implemented during extreme weather conditions or adverse events.

A Yellow Weather Warning indicates that the weather is not threatening to the general population but can pose risk for people exposed to the weather.  The DRHE is fully aware of the potential impact that his type of weather can have on people sleeping rough.  Accordingly, the Status Yellow Weather Warning response has been activated.

  • Extra contingency beds are ready for use for the duration of the Yellow weather warning, these beds are additional to the 250+ beds that became operational in 2018;
  • Housing First teams are continuing to deliver a targeted response to people who are long-term rough sleeping and people who may not be in regular contact with services;
  • A contingency emergency response is already in place for any family who may be at risk of sleeping rough at night.

Bed capacity and increases in demand for accommodation are consistently monitored throughout the day and night by staff in the DRHE.  At times, full capacity is reached early in the night, but beds become available at later stages due to bookings not being utilised.
