Dublin City Sport & Wellbeing Partnership

Back to Sports and Leisure

The over-arching goal of DCSWP is to enable and inspire everyone in our communities to engage in sport and physical activity regardless of age, background, gender or ability. The Partnership’s work is guided by a high-level advisory board, informed by Sport Ireland/national policies on sport and physical activity and supported by DCC’s indoor and outdoor sporting infrastructure including high-class sports & fitness facilities, community and recreation centres and DCC parks and open spaces.

From an operational perspective DCSWP has 19 Sport Officers working in communities across the city, one citywide Health Promotion Officer, one Active Cities Officer, two Sport Inclusion & Integration Officers and 25 Co-funded Officers from National Governing Bodies in Athletics, Boxing, Football, Rowing, Rugby and Swimming.  The work of the Partnership is also supported by a dedicated administrative team in DCSWP’s central office in Dublin City. (Please see below 2024 infographic outlining the funding and operational structure of DCSWP)

DCSWP Officers work with multiple partners in the delivery of core programmes. Fostering close working relationships with both internal and external partners is critical to the Partnership’s success, helping to identify where the service can have the most significant and positive impact. Core programmes are aimed at a number of key target groups including:

  • Underactive Communities
  • Schools
  • Youth At Risk
  • Older Adults
  • People with physical, intellectual and sensory disabilities
  • Minority groups
  • New Communities
  • Women in Sport

DCSWP also aligns the planning and delivery of programmes with major national and international sporting events. This strategic approach helps maximise promotion of the service, adds momentum to local programmes and initiatives and ultimately increases reach across communities in Dublin City.
