“I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the families, relatives, colleagues and friends of Ciaran Jones and Celia Ferrer De Jesus, who both died so tragically during the extreme flooding last Monday night.”

“Both were valued members of the community, serving the public with distinction in their jobs. Ciaran served the community of Stepaside as a Gárda and his courage and dedication to his job was exemplified when he lost his life selflessly trying to prevent a car from crossing a bridge hit by the floods. Celia was a very popular member of staff at Our Lady’s Hospice and Care Services in Harold’s Cross where she worked for 10 years, and the staff have spoken very highly of her and are deeply moved by this very sad tragedy. Our thoughts are with their families at this very difficult time.”
