Music for People with Dementia and their Carers

Walkinstown Library, Wednesday 26 February at 6.30pm 

Music therapist Martin Fahy will explore how to use music in caring for people with dementia and how it can benefit their carers. There will be live music and songs to enhance the understanding of the potential of music. Martin works as a music therapist in the age related unit of Our Lady's Hospice. Audience participation is encouraged.

With exercises set to music, learn to build strength and get fit in a fun and easy way. Suitable for beginners and all abilities welcome.  Loose clothing and suitable footwear is essential. Hosted as part of Healthy Ireland at Your Library programme.

Stress Management

Cabra Library, Thursday 12 March at 6.30pm

Drawing upon a cognitive behavioural approach to stress management, attendees will gain an understanding of what stress is, of the lifestyle factors that cause it, and of its physical and psychological effects. With an introduction to skills and strategies for combating stress effectively, attendees will gain an insight in how to increase one's potential to live with greater fulfilment and enjoyment. 

Introduction to Mindfulness

Drumcondra Library, Thursday 27 February at 6.30pm  

In this workshop, participants will gain an understanding of what minfulness is and learn to identify ways in which to embrace mindfulness in everyday tasks. Attendees will develop an awareness on the postive effect that mindulness practice can have on our wellbeing. 

Walking the Camino de Santiago

Ever considered setting out on the Camino de Santiago? Andrea Ryan gives walkers the knowledge and advice needed to walk the Camino. The talk will cover the history of the Camino, how to cover the mileage, how to train, optimum times of the year to travel and rounding off with a Q & A session. 

Dementia Awareness talk

This talk will be facilitated by Joanne Brennan, Dementia Adviser with the Alzheimer Society of Ireland. Joanne will provide information on the different types of dementia and the signs and symptons associated with the onset of dementia. Joanne will discuss risk factors, brain health and the work carried out by the Alzheimer Society of Ireland. 

Alzheimer Society of Ireland Mobile Information Service

The Alzheimer Society of Ireland's Mobile Information Service provides information and support to people with dementia and their families, as well as those concerned about their cognitive health. The unit provides a suite of resources and factsheets relating to dementia. All are invited on-board to view the information and resources. 

Childhood Worries and Anxieties

In this talk, Dr. Mary O'Kane explains anxiety in children and offers parents practical advice on how to support their children during difficult times, helping them to manage their fears and gain confidence. 

Anxiety - How to Survive and Thrive

Sometimes it seems hard to find time or space, and we feel pulled in so many different directions. These sessions use simple movements, co-ordinating with our breath, and working with simple sounds using our voices, to help us find a new sense of space and wellbeing, enabling us to live our lives more fully.
