National Library Open Day

Drop into your local Dublin City library on National Library Open Day, this Saturday, 29 February 2020.

 

We invite you to come into your local library and sign up for a library card.

Visit our library stand , pick up a leaflet and  ask staff about all the free resources you can borrow with a library card or / and

download on your mobile devices. Between, books, magazines, e-audiobooks and courses, you will find something to suit you.

 

Find out about the groups you can join in the library – most libraries will have book clubs, story-times, lectures and talks.

There is something for everyone and it won’t cost you a thing.

Tours :

Ballyfermot Library : Find out about the Creative Studios where you make sound and video recordings at 10am and 1pm

 

Central Library : Librarians will give you an overview of all the services available in the Central Library at 10am and 2.30pm

 

Dublin City Archives : Go on a tour with Dr. Mary Clarke, City Archivist  of Dublin City Archives at 3pm. Did you know that the head of Nelson’s pillar is in the

Dublin Reading Room in Pearse Street and that Dublin had the first planning section for a city in Europe called The Wide Street Commission. Anything you need to know about the city is here in this archive.

Creative Activities :

Coolock Library has re-opened in January to a great response from Dublin’s northside community.

We invite you to come in and see the new Maker Space form 11 am – 4pm and find out from ‘makers’ about the options of using laser cutting machines,

3D scanners and printers, raspberry pi and Arduino kits.

 

Ballymun library welcomes children and families to make a ‘spring animal’ craft from 12.00 pm – 13.00pm

 

Ballyfermot Library will have an arts and crafts session for all age groups between 2.30 pm – 3.30pm.

 

Music :

The Quiet Tree – an intimate traditional Irish music performance at Cabra Library with Ceol Connected at  10.30 am  – 11.15am  and 12.00 pm to 12.45pm . This performance is for 3- 5 year olds with a parent. Booking required . Tel. 8691414. Email : cabralibrary@dublincity.ie

 

Traid Hub – Come along and enjoy trad and fold music played by local musicians in the library Traid Hub between 11am and 1pm

 

Rock Instruments for lending – Girls Rock Dublin and Pearse Street Library staff will answer questions from teens about this new service they are providing for free.

 

Join a group:

Libraries are social spaces in communities and have many groups. Come along to Walkinstown library form 11.00 to 1pm and hear from 7 groups about what they do and how you can join them. Walkinstown Library has a readers’ club, a local history group, a grow it yourself group and thriving needlecraft groups.

Bring your child to a Teddy Bear Story-telling picnic ( under 7 year olds) at Ballyfermot Library between 11 am – 12 pm
