Dublin City Council in association with Coiscéim Broadreach once again brings you a feast of dance as part of Bealtaine 2015. This year offers a dance classes & performance project open to everyone aged 50+ and runs from now until 28 May 2015.

The drop-in afternoon dance classes will take place in Terenure, Ballyfermot, Ballybough, Cabra and Santry and cost just €3 per person and no experience is necessary.  Easy and relaxing exercises will keep class-goers fit, flexible and active, and new choreography will offer everyone a chance to be creative in a fun and fit environment.

Lord Mayor Christy Burke commented on this years celebrations “we are delighted to welcome another great series of dance classes which over the years have grown bigger and more successful as part of Bealtaine.  It is testament to all involved of the hard work, commitment and enthusiasm for this wonderful initiative encouraging fitness and fun for everyone aged 50+”

All class participants will be invited to perform in FEAST ON DANCE | THE MAIN COURSE, for the Bealtaine Festival 2015 at City Hall on 28 May 2015.  Directed by choreographer Philippa Donnellan, the performance is inspired by extravagant culinary traditions, both past and present, and is set to be a grand and lively social occasion - a choreographic feast of dance accompanied by some of the finest classical music of all time.

FEAST ON DANCE | THE MAIN COURSE is the 8th partnership project from CoisCéim Broadreach and Dublin City Council’s Arts, Sport & Recreation and Community Development Sections. Over the past eight years the two organisations have developed this annual dance project to provide people aged 50+ with an opportunity to socialise, get fit and be creative. Each year the project takes a different theme which has included the music of Edith Piaf (La Vie en Rose, 2009), well known opera arias (Dance Arias, 2010), film stars from the Silent era (Silent Idols 2011), celebrations of daily life (Wild & Wonderful, 2012) the city of Dublin (Dance Across Dublin ,2013) and love songs old and new (Love Song and Dance, 2014).

Last year, Love Song and Dance attracted over 500 participants to drop-in dance classes and sixty people performed in the celebration performance at the Main Hall in IMMA.

Established in 2006, BROADREACH is the participation and engagement programme of COISCÉIM DANCE THEATRE. It is founded on the principle that dance is a performing art. Its activities are pioneering, targeting all sections of the population in an exciting and innovative manner to create a genuine curiosity in dance. Every year, BROADREACH touches the lives of thousands of people through classes, workshops, residencies and dance performance participation projects. BROADREACH hosts regular classes for adults of all ages.  In addition, it also co-ordinates CREATIVE STEPS young people’s dance theatre, THE CHOREOGRAPHY PROJECT and THE DANCE ENSEMBLE, a performance group for people aged 50+.
