Fire Safety Calendar 2017

Winning Entries Announced for Dublin Fire Brigade Fire Safety Calendar 2017

The Lord Mayor Brendan Carr and Chief Fire Officer Patrick Fleming were in the Mansion House this morning to present prizes to twelve lucky Dublin students for their winning pictures which are featured in the 2017 “Dublin Fire Brigade Fire Safety Calendar.”

Dublin Fire Brigade, as part of Fire Safety Week, invited all the primary school children in the Dublin region to participate in an art competition with the aim of increasing fire safety awareness among young people. The twelve best “fire safety” pictures were used to create the calendar which will be sent to all Dublin Primary Schools for display.

The Lord Mayor said, “At Christmas time the fire safety message is even more important than ever because we all tend to relax more, there’s more cooking taking place, candles are lighting and there are decorations all over the house.”

Chief Fire Officer Pat Fleming said, “I firmly believe that by raising the awareness of fire safety among these children we are spreading the message, and this will help to save lives in their homes and among their wider community.”

Dublin Fire Brigade would like to take this opportunity to remind the public to be Safe at Christmas by

  • Cleaning your chimney regularly - not just at Christmas for Santa Claus. A clean chimney greatly reduces that chance of a Chimney Fire occurring.
  • Working Smoke Alarms save lives. Batteries must never be removed from Smoke Alarms to be used in toys or other electronic items.
  • Always unplug your Christmas lights before you go to bed.
  • Keep matches and lighters out of Children’s reach.
  • Have an ‘Escape’ plan for you, your family and visitors
