What Book Clubs are all About!

BookclubThe final sessions of book clubs for younger children aged 0-3 years took place in Ballymun Library on Tuesday 24th of July.  We celebrated by having a little party filled with lots of treats.
The chosen book was ‘Not Just a Book...’ by Jeanne Willis and Tony Ross.  This story teaches children and grown-ups how to enjoy books fully by using your imagination.
It is written very cleverly with lots of funny illustrations that made us all laugh.  The tale encapsulates perfectly the pleasure family reading provides.

Easter bunny loves reading too!

Hallowe’en fun with little ones

Spot's Spooky FunDressing up, making magical memories and most importantly, having fun are all special experiences that should be enjoyed during family reading.  What better way to do this than celebrating Hallowe’en at Ballymun Library’s Book Clubs for Younger Children! The Baby, Wobbler and Toddler book clubs had dedicated themed story sessions last Tuesday, 24 October.  Most who attended dressed up for the occasion and had a ‘spooktacular’ time!

At the baby session, the book ‘Spot’s Spooky Fun’ by Eric Hill was read by Maria Sheahan (Librarian).  This is a lovely story where Spot has the tricky task of deciding which costume to dress up in for Hallowe’en.  The group was enthralled book proving this book is a perfect Hallowe’en read for young babies.

Baby, Wobbler & Toddler Book Club - We’re Back!!!

Babies love booksWe’re back with new toys, new books, new members and a new book club dedicated to wobblers.  Having taken a break over the summer, Ballymun Library is delighted to host weekly book clubs for younger children again.  Attendance is free and no prior booking is required.  At each session, Maria (Library Staff Facilitator) reads a story and provides tips on reading to younger children.  A song or rhyme based on the theme of the story is covered.  Then toys are brought out so that the children have an opportunity to play and the grown ups have a chance to chat.

Books to build new skills for your baby/toddler

Clap hands here come the puppiesWe had our last sessions of the Baby and Toddler Book Clubs on Tuesday, 27 June.  To celebrate, we had a little party for each group with jellies, sweets, juices and bubble mixtures.  The sessions had good attendances again with over 20 people at each group.

The Baby Book Club final book choice was Clap Hands Here Come the Puppies.  This book is aimed at babies and young toddlers.  The book is designed to develop sensory, language and physical awareness.  Each page contains bright pictures and patches with various textures. The book also encourages little ones to clap hands – a skill that most babies acquire by the age of 6 months.  It’s an ideal read for at home and on trips.  We sang ‘Six Little Dogs’ to the tune of ‘Six Little Ducks’ to complement the story.
