The Business of Starting a Business

MoneyWe are half way through our Spring 'Start Your Own Business' programme here at the Business Information Centre, and as ever the workshops are proving a great success.  The workshops, which are taking place every Thursday from 6.30 – 8.00pm, attract entrepreneurs, innovators, start your own business enthusiasts, back to work job seekers and those who wish to go it alone in a  business world.

The 5 Whys of Mapping

MapWhy hold maps?
The Business Information Centre (BIC) stocks a large collection of maps, atlases and useful guides with insights to local districts, towns, cities, counties and countries contained within. Being more specific, Road Atlases, Street Guides, Touring Maps and a full collection of the Discovery OSI maps of Ireland are all held at the BIC. Detailed information on relational distances and times between various locations and scales of specific regions and general area features are often looked for. The scale of the Discovery Series of Ordnance Survey Maps alone (75 in total) have a coverage of 2cm to 1km dimensions.  On the other side of the scale, the large Continental Maps hold a scale of 4cm covering 30km.

Education Resources at the BIC

The Business Information Centre (BIC) has a very up-to-date collection of modern educational reference books, magazines, newspaper cuttings files, as well as online resources on open access.  They are freely available to all students from primary level upwards. Included are popular titles such as those in the 'Less Stress More Success' series, which covers both the junior and leaving curriculum, and a small selection of 'the Revise Wise' books, also covering these same examinations.

Healthy body and mindOur collection of material in the Business Information Centre (BIC) in Dublin City Centre holds the key to achieving a healthy body and a healthy mind.  From an up–to–the minute selection of medical reference books to a useful collection of health magazines, the BIC is a valuable resource when it comes to health information.

A special feature of our Centre is the vast collection of newspaper cuttings contained in our Subject Files and available on public access, files covering all manner of topics including Health, Mental Health, and Health & Safety.

InfoTrac: A very useful resource

Info TracInfotrac is just one of the exclusive online resources available in the Business Information Centre containing up-to-the-minute information on over 3,000 sourced academic journals and general magazines, and with more than 3 million full text or abstract articles available.

The Year of Design 2015

ID2015

2015 is a special year which celebrates all aspects of Design, Fashion, Architecture under the umbrella of the Year of ID2015 with conferences, exhibitions, lectures, tours and workshops taking place across the country.

To coincide with this, The Business Information Centre are delighted to host a free workshop on Monday, 27th April focusing directly on the practical business advice of Lye Ogunsanya, a Designer, Social Entrepreneur and founder & CEO of AKI-NA with a workshop entitled Think Ethics, Think Success. The centre also hopes to run a further 3 workshops throughout the year on the theme of creativity in planning and design.
