Lord Mayor Expresses Condolences

Lord Mayor of Dublin Brendan Carr has today expressed his condolences to Bernadette McGuinness and her family following the death of former deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland Martin McGuinness.

The Lord Mayor said “Martin McGuinness, as Sinn Féin’s Chief Negotiator, played an important role in the Northern Ireland peace process negotiations which led to the Good Friday Agreement and peace on our Island. This ongoing peace has played a very positive impact on the citizens of Dublin, as well as the whole of Ireland.  As Deputy First Minister he continued to work for the people of Northern Ireland up until his recent retirement.  I would like to send my condolences to the McGuinness family and also to his Sinn Féin party colleagues.”

As a mark of respect, the flag on the Mansion House will fly at half mast on the day of the funeral.
