A large contingent of Firefighters representing Dublin Fire Brigade are travelling to New York on Thursday 25th August 2011 to participate in the World Police and Fire Games 2011, the games will respectfully coincide with the ten year remembrance of September 11, 2001.

The World Police & Fire Games are currently the second largest multi-sport event in the world, surpassed only by the Summer Olympics with up to 15,000 athletes participating.  The Dublin contingent are entering in a range of disciplines including swimming, soccer, golf, boxing, athletics, triathlon, rowing and surfing.  They have been training consistently for the past 18 months and are hopeful of building on past success in previous games.

“We are very proud of our firefighters in Dublin and I wish all the firefighters travelling to New York the very best of luck in the World Police and Fire Games 2011.  They have trained and worked so hard to put themselves forward for this competition and I know all their dedication will pay off” said the Lord Mayor, Andrew Montague.
