Week 1: Ireland in 1920: The Year in Terror. Delivered by historian James Curry, this talk focuses on 1920, the year that the Black and Tans & Auxiliaries arrived on the scene during the War of Independence.  

This 6-week course will focus on the revolutionary years from 1916-23 when Ireland achieved independence from Britain. Delivered in a lively and accessible manner, topics will include partition, the War of Independence, the Treaty and the Civil War. If you enjoy going to talks on Irish history, this is your chance to delve deeper and learn some more on this pivotal period in our history. In addition, each week course participants will read and discuss historical documents and memoirs of the time.
