Goodbye Dublin: The War of Independence in the City

Printer-friendly version

Dublin City Library & Archive, August 12th to October 31st.

Dublin City Libraries’ new exhibition commemorates the War of Independence in Dublin. Dublin played a central role in the War of Independence. The city was the seat of the British administration in Ireland, and had a heavy police and military presence. It was vital that the Irish Volunteers contested control of the city and demonstrated that British control over Ireland was loosening.

This exhibition tells the history of this conflict using contemporary photographs, ephemera, film, and a period Black and Tan uniform.

The exhibition is part of Dublin City Council’s Decade of Commemorations programme, supported by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.

Tours: The exhibition will be accompanied by guided tours available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays in August, September, and October.
