Soccer Players and the Irish Revolution

Ballyfermot Library, Wednesday 12 February at 6.30pm

Among the notable sporting casualties of historical myopia are Ireland’s revolutionary soccer players, whose stories have only recently received their due attention. What was it like to be a soccer-playing revolutionary, what influenced their choice of sport, and to what extent did their past-time reflect their political and cultural outlooks, if at all? This case-study examines these prepositions in order to shed some light on the experience of Irish soccer players within the revolutionary movements of the War of Independence and Irish Civil War.
Hosted by Aaron O Maonaigh as part of Euro 20 Dublin Football History Legacy project.

Admission free. First come, first seated.
