Variations to the Dublin City Development Plan

A variation to the City Development Plan is a means by which the plan may be updated.

Variations to the City Development Plan can only be proposed by your elected representatives on the City Council. They can be proposed at any time.

To take effect, variations must be adopted by a resolution of the council.

How a variation is created

Dublin City Council must follow these steps to create a variation:

  1. Prepare a Screening Report to determine if a Strategic Environmental Assessment is required.
  2. Circulate the Screening Report for 3 weeks to prescribed organisations for their comment.
  3. Publish a public notice in national newspapers stating that this area is proposed for a Special Planning Control Scheme.
  4. Invite submission from the public for 4 weeks about the proposed scheme.
  5. Send the proposed variation to the City Council for approval.
