Object or Support a Planning Application
Object to or support a planning application
You are allowed to comments on all planning applications received by Dublin City Council – either in support of the application or objecting to it. Such comments are called 'observations' and anyone can make an observation.
It costs €20 to submit an observation.
Submit an observation objecting to or supporting an application
To submit your observation, follow these steps:
Step 1: Write a letter with your observations
In your letter, explain why you support or object to the application. Please include:
- Your own name and address.
- The address of the proposed development.
- The planning reference number (where possible). Find a planning reference number in the Planning Database.
Note: Your observation must be submitted within 5 weeks of the lodgement of a planning application. The 5 week period commences on the date the application is lodged with us. To calculate the 5 week period, count 35 days from the date of lodgement.
Step 2: Send us your letter
Send your letter by post (or in person) to the address below. Please enclose a cheque or money order for €20, payable to Dublin City Council (do not send cash in the post).
Please note that no fee will apply to a submission/observation on a Local Authority Works (LAW) application.
