Bloom in the City

This garden reflects Dublin City Council (DCC) Parks & Landscape Services’ ambition to green the city. The department has recently developed a Tree Strategy and a Biodiversity Action Plan, and an Open Space Strategy is almost complete. These policy documents are a statement of intent on how Dublin City Council (DCC) Parks & Landscape Services’ envisages Dublin city centre developing over the next number of years. This garden reflects several components of how DCC plans to achieve these goals.

A monumental oak tree is the main element of the garden. This tree is a symbol of DCC’s intent to increase the population of trees in the city. The swathes of planting are reflective of how the city council has evolved its palette of planting to create more sustainable, interesting and bee-friendly beds. The large bench reflects the council’s goal to provide more well-placed public seating throughout the city. The culmination of this work will make the city a healthier, more liveable, nature-rich place.
