Dublin City council motor tax offices have experienced a significant reduction in business since the driver license processing was transferred to the national driver licence service (NDLS) at the end of October 2013. In addition over 70% or Dublin motor tax customers now tax online at

Also the option of taking a car off the road retrospectively is no longer possible therefore customers can take their car off the road for an advance period by using the on line service.

The motor tax service has been reviewed and it is not possible to keep 3 offices open for the level of service now required by customers therefore the motor tax office in Clondalkin will close effective 24th December 2013. Staff from the Clondalkin office will be reassigned across the city council to fill vacancies in other service areas.

Two motor tax offices will continue to be available for transacting tax business, Smithfield which is on the red Luas line and Ballymun which is just off the M50.  Customers may undertake their motor tax transactions on line, by post, in person or by ringing tel. No. 2228222 and staff will undertake the on line transaction where a customer has a pin and a debit/credit card but is not familiar with the on line process.
