Technology fights poverty – Dublin showing the way

Lord Mayor of Dublin Naoise Ó Muirí says “At the start of 2013 we get the chance to reflect on the events of the past 12 months and we think of people who are no longer with us – some close family and friends and some people in different parts of the world whose lives have changed in 2012 through acts of nature and through conflict.

We also look forward to the New Year - the start of a New Year is always a time of hope and new beginnings. We in Dublin are keeping this spirit of hope alive in 2013. We are hosting the 8th Forum of the World Alliance of Cities against Poverty, co-hosted with UNDP in partnership with UN Women and UNITAR.
I am going to be joined by Mayors from all over the world who are in Dublin on 20th & 21st February 2013 to work together on some practical solutions that will make a difference to the lives of people who are blighted by poverty.

By joining us in Dublin they will get to hear and meet some world class speakers from cities and organisations across the world and from the technology sector who are making a difference to the lives of real people. This is an opportunity for companies based in Dublin to showcase high tech solutions which help cities the improve the quality of life of its people. I would like to hear from you if you have something that you can showcase in February.

Let us hope that by this time next year we will have made a difference and have helped someone to break out of the cycle of poverty”.
