Water Shut-Off planned for Merrion Row – Sunday 23rd June 2013

Printer-friendly version

Dublin City Council’ s Water Services Division will be shutting off the water supply in the Merrion Row/St. Stephen’s Green North area of Dublin City, from 9.00am to 3.00pm on Sunday 23rd June 2013, to facilitate a new water connection for a restaurant on Merrion Court, off Merrion Row. We anticipate that the work will take no longer than 6 hours to complete.

The connection was scheduled to take place today but the City Council has taken on board the concerns expressed by the Restaurants Association of Ireland and local businesses, on the commercial impact this may have had on them.

In addition, the Water Services Division will avail of the opportunity to conduct valve upgrade works on upper Dawson Street on Sunday, which were due to be replaced as part of planned works in the coming weeks. This will further ensure minimal disruption to businesses and circumvent the need to shut water off again in the same area at a future date.

Water connections would usually be carried out during the normal course of the working week, Monday to Friday, by our Mains Laying Crews. It is not possible to conduct this type of work during the night as it would create a noise nuisance for residents and hotel guests.

The streets affected on Sunday next will be

  • Merrion Row;
  • St Stephens Green from the junction of Grafton street to Ely Place;
  • East side of Dawson Street from St Stephens Green to Molesworth St.

Customers and Businesses in the affected area, including their Representative Bodies are been notified today of the shut-off and nature of the works taking place on Sunday.

Dublin City Council apologises for any inconvenience caused.
