Waterways Ireland Docklands Summer Festival in association with Dublin City Council is delighted to welcome back the Docklands Summer Festival on the weekend of 18th and 19th May. “The Docklands Summer Festival is the place to be this weekend. We have music, magicians, water sports, markets, street entertainers and a huge range of exciting activities for families and teenagers. It promises to be an adrenaline-filled weekend of thrills and spills in our revitalised Docklands”, says Dublin’s Lord Mayor and Dublin Port Admiral Naoise Ó Muirí who is looking forward to ‘soaking up’ the festival with what organisers hope is a record crowd. The festival is now in its third year and attracted over 60,000 visitors last year.
With a diverse range of activities on and off the water there’s no shortage of entertainment in this year’s programme.  Events include face painting, balloon modelling, fun fair attractions and an open air art gallery & children’s arts centre in the Waterways Ireland Visitor Centre. And that’s just for the little ones!
On-water activities include a wakeboarding display, charity rubber ducky race and water sport ‘come and try it’ sessions in sailing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, wakeboarding and windsurfing are not to be missed! You can also catch markets, street performers and a helicopter flyover from the Irish Coast Guard.
The cancer research charity Bio Bank Ireland and The Irish Underwater Search and Recovery Unit will benefit from special charity events at the festival.
Commenting on the festival, Eanna Rowe, Waterways Ireland, said: “Waterways Ireland is delighted to be once again the title sponsor of this unique event. The Waterways Ireland Docklands Summer Festival provides an ideal showcase for the fabulous water facility at Grand Canal Dock, right in the heart of Dublin City”.
Local cafes, bars and restaurants, many of which face onto the water, will provide wonderful al fresco facilities.  To further tempt your taste buds, ALA Events will provide an array of food markets offering a wide range of foods. Organised by members of Docklands Business Forum and sponsored by Waterways Ireland and Dublin City Council, the 2013 festival is now in its third year.
The MasterCraft Ireland Wakeboard Demonstration team will be showcasing their sport with Ireland's best waterski and wakeboard athletes in Grand Canal Basin. Jonny Crawford, MasterCraft Ireland & Irish Wakeboard Team commented “We have been working for years on events to bring these amazing athletes and boats together on home waters; the weekend in Dublin will be continuing an exciting history of showcasing the sport on Irish waters”.
