In devising this collection development policy, Dublin City Council Libraries has regard to its statutory obligations as a public library service and to the role of a public library service in fostering and maintaining a democratic society. It is underpinned by philosophies of sustainability, social inclusion, accessibility, well-being and quality of life.

Dublin City Council Library & Archives Services - Membership Regulations / Terms & Conditions

(effective March 2017)

Any person living or working/studying in Dublin City or County or anyone with a valid public library card from any library authority in the country may apply for a Dublin City Public Libraries card.

Welcome to the Reading Room, Dublin City Library & Archive. We hope that you enjoy your visit here. Please take a few minutes to read these Terms of Membership, which have been designed to ensure that all readers will obtain the maximum benefit from their visit. The Terms of Membership complement Dublin City Council's Customer Care Charter and Code of Conduct, which are displayed in the Reading Room, and Dublin City Public Libraries' Membership Regulations / Terms & Conditions.

Comments are welcome and should, in general, be related to the post in question. In that regard we would direct you to the Dublin City Council Social Media Content Policy:

We want you to feel comfortable using our social media sites. The conversation should be respectful and contain language that is appropriate for all groups and all ages.

We reserve the right to remove comments that are obscene, indecent; contain threats or personal attacks of any kind; are defamatory, libellous or contain ad hominem attacks; contain offensive terms directed to ethnic or racial groups; or promote or endorse a product or service. We encourage all users of our social media sites to act respectfully to other users.

Sharing of images from the Libraries' image galleries (and copyright of Dublin City Council) is permitted as long as it is done in the spirit of the copyright notice and Dublin City Libraries and Archives credited, e.g. "Credit @dubcilib" (Twitter example)

Our official social media sites are manned Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. We will not reply to every individual question or comment, but will usually reply to a theme that emerges based on comments received. Individual enquiries can be dealt with by emailing  or by ringing telephone number 01-2222222 (8:30am to 6pm Monday to Friday).

Dublin City Libraries reserves the right to edit or remove, without notification, any post or comment it deems to be inappropriate, and to block any user who is in breach of these Terms.
