Dublin City Public Libraries supports learning for everyone, at every stage of life. Learning opportunities include online learning courses, language learning, and computer skills. Library collections including databases, books, magazines, audio books, DVDs, CD-ROMS, podcasts can assist your learning and study.
The Open Learning Centre offers a wide range of computer and language self learning courses.
The Business Information Centre at the Central Library is where "learner entrepreneurs" will find information on Irish companies and also on market opportunities in foreign countries.
Adult Education collections include literacy and numeracy materials and are available in most branch libraries.
All libraries provide access to computers and the Internet. The Open Learning Centre serves as a Microsoft Academy and testing centre. Microsoft Imagine Academy offers online training in Microsoft Office programmes such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, while Touch Type Read Spell is an online computer course to help develop your typing and literacy skills. Websmart is a four-part course introducing you to basic computer skills, the Internet and email.
Language learning facilities are available in several of our branch libraries. You can work towards a library-based Certificate of Course Completion should you so wish. Language learning is also available through informal conversation exchange in foreign languages, plus the Open Learning Centre offers a wide range of language self learning courses. And then there are the online language learning courses available courtesy of your library membership.
Trained literacy tutors play a key role in helping adults with reading and writing difficulties, and in recognition of this the Central Library has compiled a resource list of publications to support their professional development.
Our Learning Bus is a fully equipped mobile learning unit aimed at bringing computer learning into your community.
Includes Universal Class Online Courses with over 400 courses available; Mango Languages with over 70 foreign languages; Rosetta Stone Advantage with a number of languages you can learn through the medium of 21 interface languages; Microsoft Imagine Academy training in Microsoft Office programmes such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; and Touch Type Read and Spell for those who experience spelling, reading or writing difficulties and those wishing to developing their typing skills.
The Dublin and Irish Local Studies Collection offers a research facility to Second Level History and Geography students preparing for the Leaving Certificate.
At a central location on Pearse Street, the Research Reading Room is open to students who wish to use the resources of the library. These include an unparalleled collection of material on Irish history, with particular emphasis on the Dublin area.
A number of spaces for personal study are available in the Research Reading Room, Dublin City Library & Archive, Pearse Street.
