Dublin City Public Libraries has a significant music collection with most branches providing a range of music and music literature.
The main body of the collection is located in the Music Library, Ilac Shopping Centre.
This library makes music available in a broad range of formats, either recorded, in the case of CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs and CD-ROMs, or printed as with our Vocal Scores, Miniature Scores, Sheet music, Part-works, Libretti, and Songbooks.
These works include most music genres: Traditional Irish, Popular, Easy Listening, Country, Jazz, World, Sacred, and Classical to name but a few.
Other facilities available include CD sampling booths, keyboard self-learning facility, Headphones for listening to CDs and other recordings in the library and a song-line and CD-track database. Or you can learn an instrument through the First Notes Collection.
A large number of music periodicals can be browsed with previous issues also available.
The Music library serves the need of a broad range of people. Music students or those engaged in research often find our music reference books and periodical holdings essential.
We provide songbooks including Lieder, traditional ballads or modern power-chord classics from U2.
We also have a large range of Vocal Scores of both Opera and Musicals.
Apart from our extensive reference and lending services, what could be better than escaping for a leisurely afternoon, just browsing in this oasis of calm in the heart of the bustling city.

Want to see what the filmed version of your favourite book is like?
Dublin City Public Libraries has a huge range of films and television series on DVD for you to choose from, PLUS you can can borrow several at any one time if your appetite so allows. The loan period for a DVD is one week. The loan period can be extended by renewing the item in person, by telephone, or online, providing it is not required by someone else.
So be it Blade Runner, Of Mice and Men, Shirley Valentine, Wuthering Heights, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, we have it. Not to forget the television series you can borrow, these for example: Foyle's War, Midsomer Murders, Borgen, Lewis. And then there's the classics - Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, the Brontës. The titles and authors mentioned are just the tip of the DVD Iceberg!
All our branch libraries stock a range of DVDs. However, even if your branch does not stock your DVD of choice, you can reserve a copy held in another location and have it forwarded to your local branch.
So start checking the library catalogue online now. In Advanced Search enter the title (or keywords), and from the 'Format' box select 'DVD'. You may of course prefer to just browse the shelves and select a DVD at random at any of our branch libraries!
