Micheál Mac Liammoir and the Dublin Gate Theatre

Micheál Mac Liammoir and Hilton EdwardsExhibition on display at Dublin City Library and Archive, October 2018

Together with his partner Hilton Edwards, Micheál Mac Liammoir was a giant of modern Irish Theatre. They founded the Dublin Gate Theatre in 1928 and this exhibition has been arranged to mark its 90th anniversary. Prodigiously talented, Micheál was an accomplished artist, actor, playwright, set, stage and book designer, author and multi-lingual translator. He was born in London as Alfred Willmore but re-invented himself as an Irishman, becoming fluent in the Irish language and speaking English with a marked Co. Cork brogue.
