Update, 10th August: Ten Dublin City libraries are now open for browsing and borrowing. These are Ballymun, Cabra, Coolock, and Raheny on the northside, Ballyfermot, Inchicore (Richmond Barracks), Pearse Street, Pembroke (Ballsbridge) Rathmines and Walkinstown on the southside.

The ten libraries are open from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday, for users to browse and borrow books, CDs DVDs. In this initial phase of re-opening there will be no seating for reading or studying, and users are encouraged to keep their visit as short as possible, and to use the self-service kiosks.  Visitors will be able to collect printing from the Surfbox printers.

Computer access in available in all the above branch libraries except for Ballyfermot, Ballymun and Walkinstown. We expect to be able to provide computer access in the three locations in the near future.

Updates will be posted here and on our social media platforms. The Central Library and Inchicore are currently closed for refurbishment works.

Quick ‘Browse and Borrow’ branches:

If your local library isn't open for browsing you can use the Call and Collect service.

Hours of service :

Monday to Saturday 10am to 4 pm

How will it work?

  • There will be a limited number of visitors allowed into the branch at any one time so you may have to queue to access the library
  • Once inside everyone will observe physical distancing
  • The idea is to browse and borrow and return fairly quickly - so that no-one is waiting too long ot get in!
  • Items can be checked-out on the self-service kiosks or using the self-service option on our library app.
  • Users can collect printing from the Surfbox printers.
  • Children under 12 year olds should be accompanied by an adult.
