The History of History Lecture Series

Thursday 5, 19 and 26 October at 6.30pm in Dublin City Library and Archive, 138 –144 Pearse Street. Please note: the talks scheduled for 19 and 26 October have been postponed.

Join Historian in Residence Maeve Casserly as she delves into the complex world of how we write history. What is historiography? What exactly is revisionism and why is it so controversial? Take a step outside your history book and test the theories of some of the important (and sometimes forgotten) historians in Irish and international history. Were they always in pursuit of the facts, or just great storytellers? Join Maeve as she argues for AND against the defence of History. This is a three-part lecture series, and you can come to one or attend all of the talks:

  1. 5th October 6.30pm The History of History I: from Herodotus to von Ranke
  2. (Postponed) 19th October 6.30pm The History of History II: from Marxism to Fukuyama
  3. (Postponed) 26th October 6.30pm The Legacy of History: the history wars, commemoration and beyond

No booking required. All welcome on a first come, first served basis.
