WEEE and Householders

Printer-friendly version
From 13th August 2005, householders in Dublin and Nationwide have been able to bring their unwanted WEEE to any of the Local Authority Recycling Centres in Dublin and dispose this type of waste for FREE.  Location and contact details for the City Council’s Recycling Centres are provided below.

Alternatively householders can take back WEEE to retailers free of charge. The take back system operators on a one-for-one basis only provided the WEEE returned is of a similar type or performed the same function as the new item purchased, i.e. you can exchange an old toaster for a new one  but you cannot return a toaster while purchasing a new microwave.  The item you wish to dispose of doesn't need to be returned to the retailer where the item was originally purchased but to the retailer where you are buying the new product.

If you purchase a new product you have up to 15 days to return a similar item to the retailer. If an item is delivered you can arrange for the removal of your old item with the retailer there and then. Otherwise you have up to 30 days to return the item back to the retailer.

There are 3 recycling centres located in Dublin City which will take back household WEEE for free:
