Beating bogus callers

If we are carrying out monitoring, repair, or maintenance work, our employees may need access to your property. Unfortunately bogus callers can sometimes call to your property claiming to be from Dublin City Council’s Water Services.

Customers should always beware of bogus callers claiming to be from Dublin City Council Water Services.

Anyone calling on behalf of Dublin City Council carries an identity card, which includes a photograph and staff number. You should always ask to see this card.

If you are still worried about their identity, close the door and call us on 222 0600. When you call it would be useful if you could provide us with the name and staff number on the card.

Our best advice is as follows:

  • If you don’t feel safe answering the door then don’t answer it.
  • If you answer the door ensure that you have the chain on and that the back door is locked.
  • If we ask you to check water at your tap etc, close the door behind you while you carry this out.
