A new Comhairle Na nóg website and Facebook Fanpage will be launched on Tuesday 28th June 2011 at the Wood Quay Venue, Civic Offices, Dublin 8 at 1pm.

The Website was the idea of the last Comhairle and was brought to fruition by the present Comhairle.  It will be launched by tonight’s newly elected Lord Mayor of Dublin.  The new Comhairle website is youth friendly and informative.  It includes blogs and forums which are popular communication methods.  The website will enable Comhairle members to set agendas, discuss minutes of meetings on line while also giving other young people the opportunity to submit questions and ideas to Comhairle.

“I want to congratulate all the young people who were involved in the last Comhairle for all their hard work in developing this idea and I also want to commend the current Comhairle for their input in ensuring its successful role out” said Anne O’ Brien, Dublin City Council, Comhairle na nÓg Co-ordinator.

The theme of the current Comhairle is Youth Facilities and Dylan Haskins, social entrepreneur and broadcaster will launch a new Facebook Fanpage to coincide with the website launch. When the Comhairle started to talk about youth facilities they discovered that there was no one place that they could find information on what was happening in the city or local areas for their age groups (10 -18 years).  This Facebook Fanpage will act as a hub for information about youth activities and events. Youth clubs and organisations will now be able to post details of upcoming events on the page.

Notes to the Editor:

Comhairle na nÓg is the National response to the commitment in the National Children’s Strategy to giving the Nation’s children and young people a voice in matters that effect them.

There are 52 members, all of whom are elected at Annual General Meetings in the 5 administration areas of Dublin.
