The Parks and Landscape Services Division of Dublin City Council is delighted to announce details of the annual Rose Festival. The Festival will be held at St. Anne’s Rose Garden, St. Anne’s Park, Raheny on Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th July, 2011.

Set in the 270 acre historic St. Anne’s Park the six hectare Rose Garden is one of the finest in Europe with over 25,000 plants. The Festival includes a variety of entertainment over the two days (details below). The Red Stables Food Market is open on both days from 10am to 5pm. Guided walks of the Rose Garden will take place during the Festival.

Sunday is ‘Family Activity Day’ with lots of children’s entertainment for young children and teens. There will be music and entertainment on both days also.

Included in the Rose Festival there will be a Viking Village with a replica long-ship on display and groups of ‘Vikings’ will give displays of falconcry and battle re-enactments.

Admission to the festival and car parking is free. Catering, plant & portering service provided.

Rose Festival programme

Saturday 16th July

  • 10.30am: Opening of Exhibition and trade stands with rose growers, Garden centres, Horticultural Societies and Nurseries
  • 11am - 12.30 pm: Story telling – library Bus
  • ­­­­­­­­­­1pm-2pm: Music in the park - Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann
  • 2-3 pm: Ballet Fusion
  • 4pm-5pm: The Hot Club of Dublin

  • 10am – 4pm: Drop in Art Workshop
  • All day: “O Deary Me”                      
  • Studio exhibition: “Fracture, light and line”

Saturday and Sunday – Viking Village features

  • 11am: Viking village opens for the day
  • 12pm: Talk on Viking long ships (20 mins)
  • 12.30pm: Falconry display and talk (20 mins)
  • 1pm: Viking Battle re-enactment. (30 mins)
  • 2pm: Kids shield wall training (15 mins, max 12 participants 6 to 9 year olds only and parents or guardian must be present)
  • 2.30pm: Talk on Viking long ships. (20 mins)
  • 3pm: Falconry display and talk. (20 mins)
  • 4pm: Battle re-enactment. (30 mins)
  • 5pm: Falconry display and talk. (20 mins)
  • 5.30pm: Viking village closes for the day

On both days a selection of crafts people will be giving displays of their arts and crafts in the Viking Village.

Sunday 17th July – Rose Festival


  • Opening of Exhibition and trade stands with crafts and rose growers
  • Sillybillies Children’s Entertainment. Rose Festival village
  • Lecture with Dale Treadwell
  • T-shirt workshops for teens
  • Outdoor climbing wall and archery
  • Choose your Rose Competition and entertainment.
  • Guided walks of the Rose Garden and miniature Rose Garden


  • Music in the park from Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann
