STATEMENT FROM DUBLIN REGION HOMELESS EXECUTIVE IN RELATION TO FAMILY ACCOMMODATED IN REGENCY HOTEL

June 10th 2016

The Dublin Region Homeless Executive (DRHE) wishes to clarify concerns that have been publicly raised in the media in respect of the above.

Dublin City Council (DCC) work with R&G Management, who provide accommodation located at the Regency hotel.

Yesterday (June 9 2016), an incident occurred , which gave rise to substantial health and safety concerns for staff providing accommodation for families in the hotel.  DCC and the DRHE is very mindful that the experience of homelessness can lead to stressful circumstances, however the health and safety of staff is also a factor which we must have regard for. Therefore, it is critical that support and interventions made are appropriate to each circumstance. In that respect, it should be noted that Dublin City Council Homeless Central Placement Service have made numerous offers of alternative emergency accommodation to the family concerned. In addition to this, support is being provided by the state- funded provider Focus Ireland.
