Guess how much I love you!

That's not my fox...The chosen book read by the Ballymun Library Baby Book Club last Tuesday was 'That's Not My Fox'. We had already covered ‘That’s Not My Lion’ and ‘That’s Not my Elephant’ from the publisher Usborne’s ‘That’s Not My...’ series of books. Each page of these books contains bright pictures and patches with various textures.  The series aims at developing sensory and language awareness among young children and the books are great to read at home, on trips and at bedtime.  We sang ‘I’m a Foxy, Foxy Fox’ to the tune of ‘London Bridge’ to complement the story.

Get Well Soon, SpotWe’ll return to the author, Eric Hill’s series entitled ‘Spot’ next week.  Poor Spot isn’t feeling very well in the book ‘Get Well Spot’.  Don’t worry, we’ll see how his friends soon cheer him up!  Each page of this book contains bright pictures.  It’s a very simple story that babies can follow easily.

Toddler Book Club
Oi Dog!The Toddler Book Club had great fun reading rhymes with last week’s chosen book ‘Oi Dog!’ by Kes & Clare Gray and Jim Field.  Toddlers love rhymes and evidence suggests that rhyming stories and songs provide them with an excellent foundation for learning at school.  Children who love to rhyme can recognise that words that sound the same are spelt in a similar manner like cat and mat or frog and log.  In short, good rhymers make good readers (and spellers!). If you enjoyed ‘Oi Dog!’ you could also try reading the series of books entitled ‘Dr Seuss’.  These are written in a similar manner and copies from the series are available for loan or reservation from your local Library.

Guess how much I love youLove will most definitely be in the air for next week’s session!  Well, we couldn’t let Valentine’s Day go without some kind of celebration!!  Maria Sheahan (Librarian) will be reading from Eric McBratney’s and Anita Jeram’s classic tale ‘Guess How Much I Love You’.  This is a beautiful story to snuggle up and read with your little one. We’ll also sing ‘I Love You’ from the famous children’s TV show, Barney.

Please note: the book clubs won’t be running on Tuesday, 21 February due to schools’ mid-term break.  We’ll be back on 28 February.

See you all next week!

P.S. Check out some of the other books read by Baby Book Club and books read by Toddler Book Club.
